Our History

For more than a century, Matinee Musicale has faithfully promoted the culture of musical art and fostered musical improvement of its members and area students, elementary school to college.

Matinee Musicale provides musical programs to conduct artistic, cultural, educational, and charitable activities. Our recital season consists of four performances of young, rising artists. We also sponsor a College Scholarship Recital which features twelve talented musicians from each of the three local colleges: University of Wisconsin-Superior, College of St. Scholastica, and University of Minnesota-Duluth. The students are selected by their music department and receive a $200 scholarship award from Matinee Musicale.

We close our season with an annual luncheon and musical program. Local musicians fill the program with great music.

Our history published in 1999, "A City Filled with Music: 100 years of Duluth's Matinee Musicale", is available in either PDF format or text-only document.
